The Latest News from the IAEE Midwestern Chapter

IAEE Midwestern Chapter Chair - Brent Linkin

Hello, Midwestern Chapter!

Brush the sand off your feet, put down the BBQ tongs and take a moment to catch up on the Chapter that never sleeps! We know it's a challenge to balance between work, family, and all the fun summer activities. Which, is why we do our best to offer a variety of options to connect with your fellow members. Read on to see some of what we have planned, but always feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you have ideas for activities you would like to see happen. Our Membership Engagement Committee is always interested in keeping our networking events fresh and exciting! Remember, it's important for our industry to continue to grow and develop. We can only do that with proper succession planning and by inspiring the next generation to carry on the legacy. If you're interested in contributing to this success, please read below regarding our chapter's Student Outreach Program!

Two of our most recent events were smashing successes! A day spent at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, where we helped re-pack bread and sweet potatoes. No one should go hungry. Collectively, we had a small part in contributing to a total of 10,456 meals! We are planning to participate in another community activity, so please be on the lookout for the signup. The Young Professionals were busy this spring! They met at the TagPrints office in May for fun and interactive happy hour, and met again to help celebrate Exhibitions Day on June 5th at the J. Parker rooftop.

Be sure to follow us on social media (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn) to be aware of the latest summertime fun!

This June, we had our annual education session at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center. It was a beautiful day, outstanding reception and a fun environment. We also livestreamed the event for those Midwestern Chapter members who are not in the Chicagoland area. Mark Herrera, intimidated, educated and stimulated us! What is your level of awareness? Are you Red, Orange, Yellow - prepared, alert & relaxed? Safety and security is incredibly important in our industry and current state of society. When planning your next event, remember to make a plan of action and ask the appropriate questions regarding crowd control, safety training, event security and access control and know and who is responsible for ensuring the plan is executed.

Our Annual Golf Outing is selling out fast, so if you don't already have your foursome you shouldn't put it off until later. Especially because the early bird rate goes away after July 1st. You will not want to miss out on a beautiful day at Cantigny Golf Club, see the link below to sign up!

Remember, this is the Midwestern Chapter! As I have mentioned before, we are committed to supporting the members of our chapter who are located outside of Chicago and have several dedicated Board Members who are instrumental in making this a reality. Jump in the car (or the train!) and make the short trek to Milwaukee on Tuesday, August 28th for "Chill on the Hill", an outdoor evening filled with sipping, snacking, networking and relaxing to local music.

The Midwestern Chapter CEM week in Chicago, August 6-10, 2018 at McCormick Place is the perfect time to get started, make progress or finish your CEM; 6 classes in 5 days! We will also be hosting a happy hour for the CEMs in training at the Marriott Marquis.

Of course, none of this incredible programming would be possible without 100% volunteer hours put in by your dedicated Board and volunteers. A round of applause next time you see one of them at the next event! Click on this link, https://iaeemwc.memberclicks.net/events to see what's coming up and save it to your "favorites"!

Enjoy your summer!
Brent

Student Outreach!!

From resume workshops to student "shadow" dates, our YP team has done a tremendous job at working with students in the past. With so many universities in the Midwestern Chapter, we are working to roll out a new protocol for Student Outreach and we are hoping to open it up to anyone wishing to get involved. Our goal is to create a team of "Relationship Managers" to stay in contact with 1-2 universities throughout the upcoming school year. This role is open to anyone- not just our YP's! Your role would be to establish a relationship with the university and assist in scheduling:

  • Resume workshops (via email or in-person)
  • Classroom Q&A's
  • Office tours or invitations to IAEE chapter events

If you currently have a good relationship with a university - be it alumni, parent, or friend - please reach out to Paige Anne at either [email protected] or 312-597-0371 to get involved. It is so important to engage with students and promote our industry, and it will take all hands on deck to make our efforts a success! Looking forward to working with you!

Thank you to our Chapter Sponsors!
