The Latest News from the IAEE Midwestern Chapter

IAEE Midwestern Chapter Chair - Jean M. Heis, CAE, CMP

This winter has been fierce for the Midwest and I'll be happy to see Spring finally make an appearance! Your chapter has had a busy winter full of events, content development, sponsor prospecting and membership drives. Voted 2018's most engaged chapter of the year at Expo! Expo!, the Midwestern Chapter is looking for people like you to create awesome content and experiences. It's a great way to meet new people and network. Join a committee and get involved by contacting Jackie Peiffer at [email protected].

We have a new chapter charity this year, Sarah's Circle. This non-profit organization helps at risk and homeless women by providing a daytime support center, 50-bed interim housing and supportive housing for chronically homeless women or those with disabling conditions. Sarah's Circle does incredible work and we are proud to have selected them as our official chapter charity. A group of Midwestern chapter members recently participated in the annual Sarah's Circle Winter Walk: A Mile in Her Shoes. Thank you for those who participated on behalf of our chapter!

In addition to the walk, our chapter recently held a program The Art of Storytelling ...Show Managers Sharing Best Practices that Saved the Day. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our generous sponsors; RES, Rosemont CVB, Rosemont Catering and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and our Program Planning Committee for a great event.

In January we held our Annual Kickball Tournament. Always a fun, engaging night, the tournament was hosted by our friends at McCormick Place and SAVOR. A special shout out to additional sponsors of the event, United Steelworkers, Freeman and Armageddon Services. Competition was fierce, and we crowned newcomers, LoSasso Integrated Marketing the new champions. Thank you to our Kickball Tournament organizers for a great evening.

Lastly, I'd like to welcome new Board members, Ray Bianchi from Hannover Fairs and Patrick Bytner from Shepard Exposition Services. In a short time, Ray and Patrick have already done some great work for the chapter in their new roles as Board members.

February Education Program & Networking Reception
Wednesday, February 20, 2019
Donald E. Stephens Convention Center

In February, we participated in a lively conversation with a group of experienced show managers who shared their war stories from the front lines. The packed house were excited to learn their tips. The takeaways were tried and true "tips of the trade" and just good ole' fashioned common sense.

Help us collect Hotel Toiletries for Sarah's Circle

At each of our upcoming events this year, we will be collecting unused travel sized toiletries. This is a very simple way for you to serve someone in need. Please keep this in mind as you travel. Instead of leaving these items behind in your hotel room, throw them in your bag and bring them along to your next IAEE Midwestern Chapter event. Remember hotels are always willing to give you a second set of toiletries if you request them. Sarah's Circle will be happy to take them!
