Quarter 3 Newsletter 2020

Greetings IAEE Midwest Chapter friends, welcome to fall!

This year has certainly been different. I am looking forward to some consistency and beauty in the coming weeks as we appreciate the spectacular colors of fall as well as cool, crisp days and nights.

Speaking of consistency, we are pleased that “the show went on” for our IAEE Midwest Chapter Golf Outing earlier this month. It was our first in-person event since February. Thank you to all who came out to reconnect and network that day. It was simply wonderful to see everyone’s safely-distanced smiling faces!

There has never been a more critical time to stay connected with your industry colleagues. Are you taking advantage of the IAEE MWC Member Connect organized by our Young Professional committee? I would like to give a personal shout out to my September member connect partner, Kathy Lovato, of the American Dental Association. We enjoyed our first call last week when we were able to discuss current challenges and success stories, as well as share fun personal recommendations. It is not too late to join! For more information, go to our YP Committee section on the chapter website.

Another way to stay connected during these times is by volunteering on an IAEE MWC committee. Whether you are currently working or researching your next lucky employer, we know you have a lot to offer as we navigate this critical time for our industry. We are starting to think about what we want to achieve in 2021, so please reach out to me at [email protected] to get involved and help us make a difference!

Stay healthy and sane, everyone. As we keep moving forward, I hope to see all of you at our Midwest Chapter Annual Meeting on November 11th.

IAEE MWC Member Spotlight
Mary Liz Davis, CEM

The IAEE Midwestern Chapter Member Connect program kicked off in September. Members are paired with others in the industry to connect, network, idea share, and have fun! This month's activity had members choosing this or that in various categories to help start off conversations between each other. We are pleased to introduce you to our member Mary Liz Davis, CEM. Mary Liz has been in the industry for 24 years, starting on the general contractor side. She now works at GES as a Senior National Sales Manager. As a long time active member of IAEE, it is no wonder she is active in this Member Connect program and passionate about connecting with others in our industry. Learn more

EXPOCAD ~ Platform Demo

On Wednesday, August 19th, we held our first of what we’re hoping is a series of virtual platform demos. We were thrilled that our partners at EXPOCAD responded to our new chapter sponsorship opportunity and educated us on their platform. Many topics were covered, and the presenters, Michele Bennett, CEM, Senior Exhibition Manager, SPIE, and Rich Stone, CEO, EXPOCAD® by ACT, did an outstanding job. From discussing the logistics of a virtual event, incentivizing your attendees from selling floor space to selling cyberspace, attendees learned how to pivot their upcoming events to a virtual platform. The presentation was packed with essential information and expert advice. The program recording and speaker presentations can be found here.

This transitional membership is available to individuals who were employed by member companies as of March 2020. Seeking Virtual Meeting & Exhibition Platforms

As we continue the path to resume some normalcy in our professional lives, virtual meetings are now the new reality. Our chapter held a successful virtual education session on Exhibitions Day. We had an overwhelming participation of 255 attendees. Following the session, our attendee survey indicated members want and need more information on Virtual Meeting & Exhibition platforms. Throughout the next few months, IAEE Midwestern Chapter will be offering a new sponsorship opportunity by holding tech demonstrations from IAEE members who specialize in virtual production and broadcasting.

Does your company have a virtual platform to hold meetings and exhibitions? Sign up now to conduct a presentation and educate our members about your virtual platform!  The Midwestern chapter has over 750 meeting planners! Please contact, Gail Brooks. Spots are LIMITED and special consideration will be given to IAEE Members.
